About

Sarah A. Uys is a conceptual eco-artist and educator based in Tampa Bay, Florida, creating mixed-media textile sculptures that explore trauma, resilience, and ecological reclamation. Working primarily with reclaimed materials and traditional fiber techniques, she transforms discarded textiles into art that embodies the cyclical processes of damage and repair—both environmental and psychological.

Drawing on her background in community arts, education, and library programming, Sarah bridges personal healing narratives with a wider critique of environmental loss and renewal. Her recent series, “The Body Remembers” and “Ecosystems,” investigate how natural systems and human psyches alike can be wounded and yet regenerate. Her work has earned Merit Awards and Best in Show honors in juried exhibitions across Florida and South Africa.

Alongside her studio practice, Sarah serves as Project Coordinator for Makerspaces at the Pasco County Library System, where she develops community arts programs, curates gallery exhibitions, and leads initiatives like the Free Art Closet, expanding public access to art-making resources. She is an active teaching artist, offering workshops and presenting at regional conferences on the power of art in public institutions.

Sarah’s international experience includes leading large-scale installations and costume design in Taiwan’s underground arts scene. Her sculptures and installations are held in private and public collections and have been commissioned for permanent installations. Through every project, she advocates for sustainable art practices and the role of art as a catalyst for collective healing and environmental awareness.
